USA:
Lake Tahoe - Lake Tahoe is the largest Alpine Lake in the USA, and after Crater Lake also the second deepest. Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains Lake Tahoe is split between two States - California and Nevada. Lake Tahoe is a paradise for every sport fan. In the summer as well as the winter Tahoe provides endless opportunities for those who like to stay active. Also on the cultural side Tahoe is a great location with the Thunderbird Lodge, Ehrman Mansion or the Shakespeare Festival - to name just a few.
And as Mark Twain once said:" Tahoe is the fairest picture the whole earth affords."
Germany:
Garmisch-Partenkirchen - bedded in a valley of the Bavarian alps you can find Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This little Bavarian town has a lot of history to provide. The 1200 year old town (the older part - Partenkirchen - goes back to roman times) offers a lot of sightseeing opportunities as well as a wide range of activities. Originally two separate town's - the mayors had been forced in 1935 to merge the two parts to one town. This was an obligation to be able to participate in the Olympics 1936.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is conveniently located for any trips. Austria is about 25 minutes by car - Northern Italy about 3 hours by car and if you are interested in castles - you have plenty of opportunity to explore those.
